A number of studies show that most of us can work productively and creatively in blocks of time ranging up to about 90 minutes. After that, our mind needs a break, a quick recovery period, a "micro-vacation" from the task or project at hand.
Practice the 90-Minute Rule. Purposely schedule your time and activities in blocks of up to 90 minutes. Batch sets of tasks together if necessary during that time period. Push through, knowing that at the end of the 90-minute period, you're going to "reward" yourself with a mini-break. At the end of 90 minutes, STOP .... take a break ... do something "mindless" for 5 to 10 minutes ... move away from your desk ... walk around .... read something interesting ... spend 90 seconds with a colleague.
Try it, beginning today.
