The Rubber Ball Metaphor

For all of us, life consists of a set of balls that we’re constantly juggling — those balls are (1) work, (2) family, (3) health, (3) friends, (4) spirituality, and (5) learning. Keeping them up in the air at all times requires practice and focus. Balls will get dropped, however, by even the most masterful jugglers among us.

The balls we’re juggling are very different in one key way: Our “work” ball is made of rubber, while all of our other balls are made of glass. A dropped work ball will bounce back, but the other balls, if dropped, will be permanently scratched, nicked, cracked, or even shattered.

What will you do differently this coming year to keep the glass balls you’re juggling as pristine as possible?
